Austin Reaves, yes, AUSTIN REAVES, has signed a sneaker deal with Chinese company Rigorer. He's been a bucket out in Los Angeles, but I don't think many people saw this coming. Mark my words, this is the spark the Lakers needed to make a Finals run. Way to go Austin π (2 min read)

No shade to Austin, who is certainly a bucket out there in La La Land, but I donβt think that many saw this deal coming. I will say he's been dropping some serious highlights as of late πͺ

More and more NBA players have been signing with Chinese apparel companies over the last few years, with Dwyane Wade signing with Li-Ning and Klay Thompson & Gordon Hayward inking deals with Anta π§
Fred VanVleet has signed a multi-year shoe deal with Chinese brand Li-Ning.
After signing Dwayne Wade away from the Jordan Brand in 2012, Li-Ning has also signed CJ McCollum and D'Angelo Russell.
As a free agent this offseason, VanVleet says he's "trying to get paid, man."

That being said, those guys are all either Hall of Famers or at the very least All-Stars, so I can see why they would command such deals overseas. Now as far as Austin is concerned, he very well may be the first role player to ever sign a shoe deal overseas. Some of the comments on the announcement post were about an April Fools joke π

I donβt really want to hate on his game, because frankly, he's a bucket and I have no problem with him signing this deal. He's marketable and might be the next Larry Bird. Anything is possible!! This play right here started the Reaves legacy π
With three games left in the NBA season, the Lakers are currently in seventh place out West, but only a half-game back from the Warriors for the fifth seed. LAL fans, you can thank Austin π
