Donovan Mitchell's $71 Shoes πŸ€

Following his historic 71 point outing earlier this week, Donovan Mitchell has significantly lowered the price of the Don Issue 4s. Plus, after a massive year of sneaker sales, 2022 couldn't keep up. Let's take a look πŸ“‰ (3 min read)

Sneaker Sales Decelerate

Sneaker sales are beginning to decelerate after years of growth. The Last Dance doc, Travis Scott collabs and stimulus checks all played a role in making 2021 the biggest year for sneaker buying ever. Since then, we’ve begun to see some serious drop off in sneaker sales πŸ“‰

It’s possible that fashion has shifted over the past few years, with more people wear crocs and mules instead of Jordans and Dunks. I recognize that Birkenstocks and other stylish slip-ons don’t fall into the category of sneakers, but personally I feel like they kind of belong under the same umbrella β˜‚οΈ

When Stussy is dropping a Birkenstock collab in 4 different colors that sells out immediately, I would say mules have entered the hypebeast fashion guy sphere. I personally don’t wear these - I'm more of a Hoka recovery slides guy myself, but I won't say never, maybe one day I'll be a mule guy in pleated trousers sipping a latte on Mulberry street. Anything is possible in 2023 β˜•οΈ

71

Following his historic 71 point explosion on Monday night, Donovan Mitchell and Adidas decided to celebrate by lowering the price of his sneakers to $71. The Don Issue 4 performance basketball shoes already retail for a pretty affordable rate of $120, but this $50 price cut is appreciated all the same πŸ™

I love to see Donovan follow in the footsteps of other generous legends like Stephon Marbury and Hakeem Olajuwon by providing affordable performance basketball shoes for the children. I’m going to be real for a second, I am still not over Donovan going to the Cavs and not the Knicks, so this whole 71 points thing was kind of salt in the wound 😒

Donovan and the Cavs are currently the 4th seed in the East (only 2 games back from 1st), and I wouldn't be surprised to see them make some noise in the playoffs. Side note: If Jamal Crawford was playing in this current fast paced version of the NBA, he could easily go for 70+. Isaiah Thomas too πŸ‘€
