MJ’s Reebok Beef

Michael Jordan’s iconic Dream Team jacket from the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona was just sold for $1.5M. There is quite a backstory with this piece of memorabilia ever since MJ famously covered the Reebok logo while warming up over 30 years ago 👀

At the time, Reebok was the official sponsor of the Olympics, but because of Jordan’s Nike deal, he hid the logo. Jordan placed safety pins over the Reebok logo and covered himself with the American flag, giving us this famous picture 📸

But the Reebok x Jordan drama didn’t stop there. A few years later in 1997, Jordan refused to take a photo with a small child because he was wearing a pair of Reebok shoes. Fortunately the kid took his shoes off, giving us another legendary photo of MJ in a gorgeous pair of He Got Game Jordan 13s with the barefoot little guy 🦶

But we’re not done yet. A few more years later in 2005, Bow Wow (at the time Lil Bow Wow) was having a sleepover with MJ’s kids Marcus and Jeffrey. A young Bow Wow was woken up by Michael himself asking “who wore Allen Iverson shoes in my house”. The shoes were promptly confiscated and never seen again 😅

I hope Mike kept this same energy for brands like adidas and not just Reebok! Kind of feels like he’s beating up on the ‘boks at this point. Anyway, the jacket selling a few weeks ago made me dig up these old MJ stories, and stuff like this and just who MJ is in general is why he is the greatest Nike athlete of all-time and it’s really not close.
