Nike Sues AJ1 Imitators π
Nike is suing another sneaker company for allegedly ripping off the Air Jordan silhouette. It sucks but I do think it's within their rights to protect the brand. Peep my full thoughts π (2 min read)
Nike Suing Imitators
Nike is suing Kool.Kiy and Omi In A Hellcat over their alleged copying of the Air Jordan silhouette. I donβt know who either Kool.Kiy or Omi are, but I have certainly seen the shoes in question. Theyβre basically Jordan one knockoffs with lightning bolt swooshes π¬
Nike files trademark infringement lawsuit against New Jersey based designers Kool Kiy and Omi in a Hellcat for promoting and selling Nike knockoffs in several color ways.
The case is 1:22-cv-10176, Nike, Inc. v. By Kiy LLC et al.

Ian Conner did something similar when he added the lightning logo to the Vans for his Revenge x Storm sneakers. Warren Lotas famously got sued for his Nike dunk SB inspired sneakers a few years back π
This has been going on for years though, the Nike Dunk/Jordan silhouette lends itself to re-imagination and customization. I get where Nike is coming from with this lawsuit, the shoe is clearly a Jordan rip off π₯
Kool Kiy just posted a parody of the βBannedβ Air Jordan 1 commercial, poking fun at his Nike Lawsuit.

That being said, I feel for any little guy going up against a big corporation, so the accused parties have my sympathies. John Geiger spent a lot of money fighting Nike in court, and if that lawsuit was any indication, this will be just as expensive π΅
They said to βJust Do Itβ. I did it and they sued me. (John Geiger x Nike lawsuit) π

As much as I want to root for people who are working for themselves, I ultimately think Nike has grounds to sue, and I wonβt be surprised if we stop seeing so many shoes so obviously derived from Nike models β οΈ
