Finally, some Shaq and Reebok drama. Ever since Shaq was named President of Basketball at Reebok I've been waiting for some gossip. Big Diesel recently tried to recruit Devin Booker to Reebok from Nike, and DBook clapped back. Here's the scoop, plus free shoes 🏀 (2 min read)

Shaq Recruits Devin Booker

We have our first Shaq and Reebok sneaker drama since The Big Aristotle took over as President of Basketball of the iconic brand. For those who don’t know, Dr. Shaquille O’Neal suggested that Devin Booker join reebok if he’s frustrated with the rollout of his current shoe, the Nike Book 1 👀

“If you want a good shoe, holla at me & AI” - these were Shaq’s words to Devin Booker on a recent edition of Sneaker Shopping. DBook responded today saying the following 😂

A lot to unpack here:

  1. Shaq is just doing his job trying to recruit talent to the Reebok brand

  2. Devin is standing his ground, not tolerating any comments about his current Nike sneakers

  3. Shaq’s Reebok sneakers were extremely popular in the 90s - the Shaqnosis ($250+ now on StockX) was everywhere - even in Men in Black

Now today, Reebok is no Nike or adidas, and not even at New Balance or Under Armour level, but that’s why Shaq was hired. At the moment, these are the biggest athletes signed with (or were signed with) or regularly seen wearing Reebok 👇

  • Allen Iverson, John Wall, Montrezl Harrell, Angel Reese, Yao Ming, Shawn Kemp

Obviously outside of Angel Reese, these athletes aren’t too relevant in today’s sports world. AI’s Questions still move the needle, but more is needed. And it seems like Shaq might be taking a different approach to innovate, rather than competing with the top brands 🎧

Either way, I respect Shaq for poking the bear that is Devin Booker. He was never going to leave Nike for Reebok, but hey it got us to write about the brand, and that’s half the battle in the modern kicks world 🤷🏽‍♂️
