These 2014 Kobe's Are Dropping Again 🐍

A pair of retro Kobe's are set to return soon, and I dropped some thoughts on the current foam runners & slides trend that Kanye started. Take a look 🧽 (3 min read)

Opinion Piece: Foam Runners & Slides

With the explosion of the slide/foam shoe market (thank you Mr. West), the question of when & where to rock these foam kicks has been popping up left and right 🤨

People have always been quick to clown you for wearing Crocs when it’s not Croc weather, and the same applies for slides and foam footwear...

When we interviewed people on the street in Manhattan about this hotly contested topic, many replied by saying that the biggest factor is your distance from the crib...

  • If you’re going to the corner store or staying in a mile radius, foam footwear is fair game ✅

  • But if you’re traveling out of your neighborhood for an extended period of time or taking public transport, then you better leave those foam runners at home ❌

The reality is that these porous, or open toed shoes, are going to accumulate a ton of dirt from the street over the course of the day, so your socks may start to look discolored after a few hours

And to be honest, if you’re not wearing socks than you’re just a nasty mf and you need to make better footwear decisions. Thank you for coming to my TED talk 🤥

Return Of The Kobe 6 “Prelude”

Thank goodness the Kobe Bryant estate was able to patch things up with Nike (read more here), because without that partnership these retros would have never been possible. The Kobe 6s initially dropped as a part of the 2014 Prelude pack, retailing for $200 🐍

The Kobe 6 typically sold for $130-150, however these were a premium pair and thus they fetched a more premium price tag. If you want to buy a pair today, prepare to pay well over $2000 💳

The Prelude pack was composed of the eight Kobe models that preceded the Kobe 9s. Each pair in the pack commemorates a unique moment from Kobe's career (dropping 81 on the raptors, winning All-Star MVP, etc.), with every model drawing inspiration from a different art style (Surrealism, Renaissance, Pop Art to name a few)

The Kobe 6 Prelude is an homage to the All-Star MVP award he won at the staples center. These are gorgeous shoes that became unattainable in recent years, so once again s/o to Vanessa and Nike for making this possible 💜
